Vitamin D Concerns?
There have been many media reports and recalls of dog foods regarding Vitamin D toxicity. If you are concerned about the added Vitamin D in Ultimate Canine, the following should
help ease any concerns you have.
Vitamin D is an essential nutrient, dogs need it from their diets as they cannot manufacture it from the sun.
Regarding toxicity, it takes a minimum of 0.1mg / kg of body weight (0.045mg / lb of body weight) of Vitamin D3 (mg - NOT IU!) for Vitamin D toxicity.
For conversion, one IU of vitamin D3 is the equivalent of 0.000025 mg of Vitamin D3.
For a 10lb dog, toxicity occurs at about 0.45mg of Vitamin D - the equivalent of 18,000 IU of Vitamin D. For a 50lb dog, it would take a minimum of 90,000 IU of Vitamin D to cause toxicity.
Vitamin K
- Key in the blood clotting cascade.
B Vitamins
- Important for nervous system function
- Many canine diets are low in B vitamins
Vitamin B6
- Needed for proper energy metabolism and growth
- Critical in production of fatty acids, prostaglandins, antibodies, digestive enzymes, hormones, and cholesterol
Niacin (niacinimide)
- Vital nutrient - required by all cells
- Required for the synthesis of protein, fat, and genetic material
- Required for proper metabolism and brain function
- Help endocrine system produce normal hormone levels
JOINT SUPPORT BLEND
Glucosamine HC l, Chondroitin Sulfate, MSM (methylsulfonyl methane)
- Top 3 ingredients in halting arthritis progression
- Actually increases the amount of cartilage
- Recent studies have shown it has anti-inflammatory properties – can be beneficial in osteo-arthritic type conditions
- Glucosamine Hydrochloride is the most bio-effective form
- Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM is the MOST EFFECTIVE combination of supplements for treating arthritis
- Supportive in arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, disc degeneration, bursitis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, cartilage / tendons / ligaments repair, skin wound-healing and in reducing inflammatory response
PREBIOTICS AND PROBIOTICS
Lactobacillus acidophilus (150 million CFU), Bifidobacterium bifidum (150 million CFU) Fructooligosaccharides
- Helps to maintain healthy digestive system by maintaining balance between harmful and beneficial bacteria in the gut
- Probiotics (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium) reduce risk of diarrhea, shorten duration of acute diarrhea and reduce risk of antibiotic associated intestinal symptoms
- Lactobacillus has been shown to enhance immune system and prevent risk of allergies
- Fructooligosaccharides - considered prebiotics: provide the right environment in the intestines to allow growth of healthy bacteria
OMEGA FATTY ACIDS
Flaxseed oil: Omega-3 Fatty Acids
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)
- EFAs cannot be manufactured from other nutrients - must be obtained from diet
- Most canine diets are rich in Omega-6 (from animal protein) but low in Omega-3
- Veterinarians prescribe EFAs for pets with allergic dermatitis, dry skin and dull hair
- EFAs are necessary for overall health
- Flaxseed Oil is an excellent source of Omega-3, providing high levels of this Critical EFA
Omega-3 Fatty Acids are beneficial for:
- Cardiovascular disease (including heartworm and CHF)
- Cancer
- Food Allergies
- Atopic and general dermatitis
- Kidney disease
- Arthritis
- Otitis (ear infections)
- Diabetes
- Autoimmune disorders
- Respiratory diseases, including asthma
- Sinusitis
KEY AMINO ACIDS BLEND
